The bunker was built during the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union, and was buried 65 meters underground.
It used to be the backup command center of the Soviet Air Force’s strategic nuclear bombers. There are also all the survival supplies needed for the leaders and important members of the Ministry of National Defense.
After more than 600 staff walked into the bunker on October 26, 1962, they saw daylight again only 10 days later. For these ten days and nights, they were waiting for only one signal-the bombing began.
It was the most recent moment when the world reached the precipice of nuclear war-the Cuban crisis. There is even a simulated nuclear bomb attack inside the bunker.
